The 2025 fall semester is in full swing, and the newest Mount students are on campus. Fall sports are beginning, and the leaves are beginning to change. The class of 2029 moved in on Thursday, Aug. 14, and the smiling new faces filled the empty dorms of Pangborn, Sheridan and McCaffrey Hall.

Orientation took place Aug. 14-16, and the newest students had the opportunity to participate in Mass at the Immaculate Conception Chapel on the 14. The students had their first residence hall meetings, a candlelight vigil and even a “Beach Bash Kickoff.”

On Friday the 15, the first-year students met with their Mount Guides, Symposium Class and also had Academic welcome meetings. On Friday night, the students had the option to Make n’ Take clay, visit Purcell Hall for Esports and Gaming, go on a tour of the Grotto, visit Saxby’s for “Caffeine and Canines,” and even go on the Zipline! Everyone’s favorite activity at the Mount also took place: bingo! The class of 2029 participated in DJ Bingo and won great prizes.

Saturday Aug. 16 was all about “Thriving Together: Building Community at the Mount,” and other important sessions. After the sessions, it was time for party in the park! The first-year students grabbed their swimsuits, sunscreen, and headed for the Emmitsburg Community Pool. While there, they played games such as pickleball, cornhole, dodgeball and more. They also enjoyed a picnic in the park!

Emmy McCarthy (C’29), had some insight into her first year. She said, “Everyone has been so welcoming, and I am so happy I chose the Mount. I am also on the Track and Field Team, and the atmosphere is super fun, and feels like a family. Coming from a smaller Catholic high school, the Mount just feels like the right place to be. My professors are also really nice, and I am enjoying my classes!”

Audrey Musmeci (C’29), is also a member of the Cross Country and Track team and ran her first race on Aug. 29. She said, “It was a big adjustment going to college, but everyone has been so nice, and the team is very welcoming.”

Patriot has been bustling with students from the class of 2026 through 2029. Café has been busy with orders for their most popular wraps and bowls, as well as their Starbucks location. Saxby's has grilled cheeses, bagels and coffees rolling out, and campus has been livelier than it was just a few short weeks ago.

Many sports are now in their pre-season, or even their regular seasons. Cross Country, Rugby and Soccer have had their season kick-offs, while other sports are gearing up for their fall seasons to begin.

The first-years are finding their way around campus and are adopting new routines into their life as college students.

A new year has been kicked off, and everyone at the Mount is excited to be a part of it!
