The Mount welcomed a number of new professors this fall. Ranging from all different disciplines such as science, psychology, philosophy and many more.

The Mount strives to form individuals. Inspiring people to live a life of significance with the Mount’s strong academics and nationwide presence. The community is intrigued to meet the New Professors.

Dr. Zhi Li teaches Sports Management, Dr. Gehill teaches Philosophy and Professor Kim teaches Education. These professors were asked four main questions. What are heir academic backgrounds?, Why their discipline?, Why did they choose the Mount?, and how do they plan to serve the mission of the Mount?

Professor Kim Day, coming from Long Island, New York gave an interesting response. When asked what inspired her to teach. After a brief pause she stated, “I always enjoyed helping.”

Continuing she states,“Since age five I have wanted to teach.” She has been working with Frederick County for over 30 years, and adjuncting for a while. She says,“Older and younger; student support is vital for success.”

“Ever-changing” and “new learning,” she said, describing her profession. Finally, when asked about the Mount Community. She had this to say. ”The work being done here is purposeful.” Overwhelmed with bliss, she says,“I keep telling people, it just feels right here.”

Dr.Ghell expressed his academic background. Attaining degrees and professorships in Rome, DC and Maryland. He currently instructs PHIL 203 (Philosophy 203). He uses language such as “rich” and “engaging” to describe the course.

He says, “A defining feature of the Mount is its communal identity.” He described the Mount community as a “real dynamic of people.” He says, “There is a sense of pride in the students.”

He mentions, “Through spiritual life, athletics, and academics.” He also stated, “It isn’t just a loose association of people.”But a sense of pride.” He described the campus as “beautiful.”

He closed by saying, “He’s humbled to be here, not only to communicate knowledge, but to be a person among the community.” Dr. Zhi Li, from Beijing, China mentioned “The closeness” regarding the Mounts community. She says,“ The relationships here are more personal.”

Blushing with joy she said, “She felt welcomed here.” She specifically emphasized the beauty of knowing people! The sports management students she described as bringing a “unique vibe.” When asked, “Why sports management?”

She said, “After watching the 2019 Beijing Olympics, I was moved.” She continued, “Sport is impactful to society.” She said, “Sports for refugees is her passion.”

She closed with her goal of partnering with sports for refugee programs. Offering students hands-on experience. This allows them to see the impact of sports for social good.

We are grateful and thrilled to have these new additions. New faculty campus wide, offer new experiences, backgrounds and skill sets. It’s important to introduce yourself, and welcome these new members to our community. Whether it be a quick “Welcome to the Mount” or a conversation. We are in for a great year. Go Mount!
