There are many clubs on campus that the Mount encourages every student to join. One of the newest additions is the new Equity and Inclusion Society created by Amanda Livingston.
It doesn’t matter what your interests are, and if you do not see a club that piques your interest, you can create your own. Thankfully we have students such as Amanda who have created clubs to provide a safe atmosphere for students of all kinds.
The positive effects of having these different clubs are increasing creativity, fostering inclusivity, reducing prejudice and building a positive community. The Equity and Inclusion Society tries to help with inclusivity at The Mount.
Isabelle Ringeval (C’26) is the Vice President and she has a lot of great ideas. Ringeval stated in an interview, “The reason I joined the club is because I feel like the Mount needs to be more inclusive and that there isn’t really a safe space to do here without facing unnecessary judgment from others. The club provides a safe, warm, and encouraging outlet to be who you are, without any judgment. That’s why I joined the club.”
Many people get nervous about joining clubs for this exact reason. I am so happy to see our community trying to break the ice. These clubs are attempting to change the stereotype that you cannot be yourself around campus.
As Ringeval stated in an interview, “My goal for this club as vice president is to help people understand that it is okay to be yourself. My overall goal is to make it a safe environment for people to talk, share their experience, and feel welcomed within the club.”
In our community, we try our very best to make everyone feel included, and our clubs encourage diversity, differences, and positive change. Isabelle wants everyone to know that the Equity and Inclusion Society is open to anyone who wants to come by.
Every Monday at 4:00pm in Dr. Trammell's office located in Learning Services. The society is a casual and relaxed place, perfect for unwinding after a long day. Along with their activities, they will sometimes play The Owl House or movies (they also take requests).
They have different activities every week. The events they held a few weeks ago were light therapy, Heartstopper night, and Lego night.
They will sometimes have goodies for the first three to four people. A couple of weeks ago, they had Sanrio squishmallows, and who does not love stuffed animals? Come by, even if it is for a few minutes, relax, have snacks and have fidgets. You do not need to be part of the club to have fun!
