Student Life has improved student mobility by acquiring three new vans for off-campus events. Previously, vehicle rentals were necessary for off-campus events, but starting after spring break, Student Life began as a campus opportunity for students here at the Mount to get to their destinations permanently. Students can use Student Life's shuttles for weekly trips to essential destinations, including off-campus school events and now, personal errands. The new off-campus shuttle service will officially launch called Shuttle Sundays. Every Sunday, These shuttles are designed to transport students to various locations such as grocery stores, restaurants and off-campus school events. This includes going to Thurmont to have access to grocery stores, pharmacies and Restaurants. The "Shuttle Sundays" program will run on March 23, March 30, April 6, 13, 20, 27, and May 4. Pick-up will be conveniently located outside the McGowan Center, making it easily accessible for all students. Each shuttle can accommodate 12 passengers and seating will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. This will happen from 12 PM to 5 PM. "Previously, we needed to rent vehicles to take students to events or required students to transport themselves to events," said Adrienne White, Dean of Students, when asked why students wanted off-campus shuttles. "We know that students have difficulties getting to and from stores and restaurants, so we wanted to provide students the opportunity to have access to resources beyond what is available on campus." While these shuttles are not an on-demand service, Student Life plans to use them for transportation to BWI and Dulles airports at the end of the semester. Helping students avoid high transportation costs. Additionally, registered student organizations (RSOs) can request shuttle services for their off-campus activities. RSOs interested in using the shuttles must submit a request through the Mount PEAK app. Designated drivers from RSOs are required to get certification from Public Safety, which includes submitting a driving record, completing an online training module, and attending a behind-the-wheel session. This initiative reflects the administration's commitment to address student needs and promote a supportive campus environment. The off-campus shuttle program is a clear example of this effort. "I am hoping the vans will help students feel more connected to the Mount, to each other, and our greater community," White added. We extend our gratitude to Student Life, White and her team for their hard work on this valuable program. It is set to be a significant resource for students lacking personal transportation and a great way to enhance campus connectivity and student engagement.
