Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Lacrosse vs. Towson

On Feb. 13 at 1:00 p.m., the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team takes on the Towson Tigers at Waldron Family Stadium. This will be the women's lacrosse team's home opener and their first game since March. The Mountain Echo was able to talk to the women's lacrosse head coach, Lauren Skellchock. She said she is just really excited to be able to get back out on the field with the team again. The Mount Women's Lacrosse Team has been preparing for their home opener ever since they stepped back on campus and started practicing again in the fall. They do their best to make practice harder than any pressure they would face in a game so that they can be prepared for Saturday.

The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team ended last year's season with a record of 6-1. They recorded wins against George Washington, UMBC, Binghamton, Campbell, Lafayette, and Howard. They have two returning seniors, Kaitlyn Ridenour and Kate Kinsella, that are staying at the Mount for their fifth year. These two fifth-year players were recently named captains along with seniors, Beanie Colson, Alayna Pagnotta, and Kate Bieraugel. Coach Skellchock said that they are confident that the team has the experience to win the conference and get to the NCAA Tournament.

The Towson Tigers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). They ended last season with an overall record of 2-4. Towson had wins against High Point University and The Ohio State University until their season was abruptly ended by the spike of COVID-19. They are a strong competitor and should be a great team for the Mount to open up with. Coach Skellchock wanted to play a team like Towson so her team could play the best competition out of the conference. The games they play out of conference prepares them for what they may see in conference play. This season the Mount kicks off their conference play by facing Bryant on March 6th. In order to make a full schedule, the Mount will compete against some of their conference teams twice.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no fans allowed at the game on Saturday. On the sideline, players must wear facial coverings and remain a safe six-foot distance from one another. Although COVID-19 makes this season challenging, the team is ready to adapt and is most grateful to be able to practice and compete. The game will be streamed on NECFrontRow for fans to watch.
