Mount St. Mary’s University students are having their own kind of fun. The evening of March 19, 2025, was filled with music, featuring a lively lip-sync battle hosted by the Music Society and the Maker House. Along with a spirited karaoke night organized by African Student Association (ASA). During these two events, students got to perform their musical talents and choreography while the crowd cheered them on as they got to lip sync and karaoke to their favorite songs.
The Music Society and the Makers House collaborated and had a lively and exciting. lip-sync battle event in the Knott Auditorium. Students who signed up to perform came on stage prepared with dance routines, acting out the songs on stage, having props, and even designing shirts to wear on stage. The lip-sync battle event included people performing songs from “Love is an Open Door” by Frozen the movie to “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan. The winner of this event was a group that performed “They Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar. They won $50 and a gift basket from the Mount bookstore. After the competition was over, people from the audience lip-sync to their favorite songs as well and students danced and cheered them on. The Makers House and Music Society plan to do another lip-syncing battle this next month with an even bigger prize of $100.
ASA had an exciting karaoke night In the PAC. This event was also filled with singing, dancing and pizza as students got to sing their favorite songs. The songs that were chosen were from Afrobeats to pop music. “We just wanted an easy-going, fun-filled event for the end of the year,” said the President of ASA, Ledell Patcha (C’25), “We know that everybody likes karaoke so we knew everyone was going to come out to sing. The student performers did great. They get to have fun with their friends and take some time off before going back to assignments at school”. This event did just that with a lovely environment that kept everyone on their feet.
The Mount’s Music Night was a great way to express the students’ musical talent and dance moves here at the Mount. Both events were lively and exciting as the music society, Makers House and ASA had a successful night.
