For the first time since 2021, the women’s basketball team had their longest winning streak of seven games.
The beginning of the season was off to a rough start, with the women’s team holding a consistent losing streak. But since the beginning of second semester, they have consistently dominated their opponents, scoring 17+ more points every game. Overall, they have won 10 out of 21 games.
Men’s basketball has also been doing well this season, overall having won 13 out of 23 games.
Mr. Antoine White, head coach of the women’s basketball team, reported that the biggest impact on their season has been their style of play. White stated, “We like to press and play fast on offense. [We are] looking to shoot the basketball in 12 seconds or less.”
Giana Hoddinott (C’27) shared this as well; “We changed our defensive mindset and put in our press and zone. It allows us to play aggressively and run in transition, which is what we are best at. We have so many threats on the offensive end, it is hard to guard us in transition.”
Gabrielle Kennerly (C’28) chalks up the team’s success on the court to their relationship off the court. Kennerly stated, “The connection that has grown over the course of [a few] months has really helped us on the court. The great base we created in the summer allowed us to gel off the court, which took a little time to show on the court. But our team, being great at bouncing back from adversity, is continuing to take steps in the right direction of gelling on the court as well.”
Mr. Donny Lind, head coach of the men’s basketball team, attributes the team’s success to their mindset. Lind reported, “I believe the biggest reason our team has been successful is our willingness to buy-in to the team success and the guys sacrificing for the good of the team. We have very talented players who put their ego aside to care about each other’s success and the team. We have freely shared the ball on offense and been very connected on defense because of this mindset.”
Dola Adebayo (C’26), attributes their success to their great leadership. Adebayo stated, “It was a team effort; coaches kept the motivation high and put us in a position to get better and have hard conversations in order to move forward. Us as players have trust in our coaches, which is why we were able to bounce back and learn from mistakes so we can keep getting better.”
We are excited to see how the rest of the season will go! Congratulations on the rebounds, both on and off the court!
