Our men’s golf team has had great success in the month of April, at this year's Testudo Cup and Men’s Golf MAAC Championship. The Testudo Cup is a 54-hole collegiate golf tournament hosted by the University of Maryland, featuring teams from across the region.

The Men’s Golf MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) is a separate collegiate championship that includes various universities in the northeastern United States, held at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. From April 5 to April 7, our Mount St. Mary’s men’s golf team placed fifth in the Testudo Cup. From April 17 to April 19, our MSMU men’s golf team also secured fifth place in the MAAC Championship.

At the Testudo Cup, Mount St. Mary’s men’s golf team secured fifth place with a total score of 875 (+11). Devin Smith (C’25) led the team, finishing tied for tenth individually with a score of 216 (E). For the MAAC Championships, the Mount St. Mary’s men’s golf team finished in fifth place with a total score of 882 (+18), highlighted by Aaron Sorkin’s (C’25) standout performance. Sorkin placed second overall with a score of 211 (-5), finishing just one stroke behind the leader and recording 16 birdies—the most in the tournament.

“We drove the ball extremely well and got to play with some really good teams,” Men’s Golf Coach Kevin Farrell said when asked about how the team performed at the tournament.

“It was a pretty good experience overall,” said Daniel Shelley (C’28). “It was a difficult course, and as a team, we managed to play well in difficult conditions.”

“It feels good to represent The Mount against other good schools because we managed to beat some good schools in the tournament. As a team, we think that we are ready for any challenge we have ahead,” said Martian Hurtado (C’27).

“It feels really good to be paired representing The Mount against good players and teams such as UMD and Delaware. This makes us feel that we are ready to do big things and that we have to keep trusting in ourselves and in the program.”

“We are always underdogs at the bigger events we play, and these bigger teams come in thinking they will walk on us—and we end up beating them,” added Devin Smith (C’25).

Congratulations to the Mount St. Mary’s men’s golf team for finishing fifth place in both the Testudo Cup and the MAAC Championships. The Mountaineers showed determination, skill and teamwork while competing against top programs. We look forward to seeing what this talented team will achieve next.
