Ryen Sakyi
Hi there, it's Ryen checking in from Buenos Aires. Being here in Buenos Aires is so breathtaking and fun. By just taking a walk in my neighborhood, I can see the rich life of the Buenos Aires locals, from the outdoor restaurants to the gorgeous Dorrego Park near my homestay house. I had the incredible opportunity to visit some of the most iconic buildings and landmarks in Buenos Aires. These excursions are some of the most fun places to explore as a visitor or tourist.
The first excursion is called La Plaza De Mayo. Located in the heart of the city, Plaza de Mayo is a historic public square surrounded by notable buildings like the Casa Rosada and the Metropolitan Cathedral. It has been the site of many key events in Argentine history. Coming here was great, I got to walk around the P.D.M. circle, where historic protests took place, and visit the Metropolitan Cathedral. I thought it was special to explore this place as it is an important part of Argentina’s history.
The Second excursion is called the Tigre Delta. The delta, north of Buenos Aires, is a network of waterways and islands by the Paraná River, offering a unique escape from city life. Also around here is the Tigre, home to many quaint markets, restaurants and historical sites. Exploring this place was fun. I spent my time here getting on a boat for a ride around the delta’s rivers, reading by the huge water fountain and exploring the different marketplaces.
Third is the Centro Cultural Kirchner. This place is a prominent cultural center housed in a former post office building. It offers a diverse range of artistic and cultural events and has stunning architecture, including a magnificent dome and grand halls. The museum has different rooms dedicated to various themes, such as Eva Perón's office, a room featuring Mickey Mouse, and a room with all blue lighting. It is a cool museum to visit.
The last one I want to write about is Colonia, Uruguay. Colonia del Sacramento is a charming historic town located just across Buenos Aires. Known for its well-preserved colonial architecture, cobblestone streets and its rich history as a former Portuguese and Spanish settlement. The town is popular for offering a delightful escape with its quaint shops, cafes and relaxed atmosphere. Some highlights from here are taking a big ferry with cafes and a lounging area to get here. Going to the Playa del Rowing beach, The aquarium, and an art museum with big outside stone art. It was great to spend time in a new country besides Argentina.
Overall, exploring Argentina’s most important landmarks was amazing. From seeing parts of history to seeing how inexpensive things were in Colonia, Uruguay, I feel grateful that my classmates from MSMU and I got to study abroad here in ‘The Paris of Latin America’ and see all the wonderful places to travel to. Till next time, see you later!
