Welcome back to another amazing semester at our mountain home. Here in the Career Center, our goal is to make this semester the best it can possibly be for you. The past two semesters have been rather hectic with the ongoing challenge of COVID-19 and all of the new ways that the job market and interview processes have changed. However, now more than ever, the Career Center is here to help you feel prepared for any internship and job that you are seeking out or obtaining. My name is Jenna Brady, and I am proud to announce that I will be the new Career Center writing intern for the spring 2021 semester. I am a sophomore, majoring in History and English with a minor in Political Science. I love to write and am excited to use this opportunity to share all of the resources that the Career Center has to offer throughout your job and internship searches. Especially now in the midst of this pandemic, the Career Center wants to be there to help students achieve their great internship opportunities and maybe even a dream job.
The Center is hosting a number of events over the next month designed to help with the job process and answer any questions that you may have: whether you are new to job hunting or a seasoned veteran. We hosted resume and LinkedIn workshops over Zoom on Feb. 10 and 11 respectively. Apart from relevant timely events, the Career Center has the option of walk-in and virtual hours available to talk about possible career paths and job searches. Another important tool that the Career Center is offering this semester is the use of interview rooms for a quiet space to take any calls that you may have with potential employers. All of these tools are at your disposal to set you apart in the job search and prepare you as best as possible for the job interview process.
One of the main upcoming events of the Career Center is the annual Career Fair on Feb. 2 from 3 to 7 p.m. The Mount has teamed up with a number of other notable institutions in the area such as Gettysburg College, Hood College and McDaniel College, to host the Maryland and Pennsylvania Liberal Arts Career Fair. The fair will be hosted completely virtually through Handshake, which students can use to register for the event and then sign up for the sessions with employers that they would like to attend. The fair will feature over 100+ employers in addition to 23 graduate programs. This event is set to be one of the biggest that the Mount has hosted, even though virtually. This is a great opportunity for students to get their names out to employers, see what is offered in the current job market and get a better sense of what post-graduation life could look like. I would encourage all of you to sign up for this event and use this opportunity to connect with both employers and the Career Center.
